Grizzly Glue polyurethane adhesives are water-catalyzed, moisture-curing products.

MOISTURE

To properly harden, the gluing surfaces must be damp, with material moisture content between 8% and 20%. We recommend that you dampen at least one of the gluing surfaces with water, even though moisture meter readings may be near the 8% mark. To achieve this, brush, sponge, spritz, or wipe the surface with a wet cloth.

SURFACE TEXTURE

Grizzly Glues perform best on surfaces that are a little rough – they prefer a surface that has a “tooth” or “bite.” Whenever feasible, leave your gluing surfaces rough. For woods that finish to a smooth surface and for smooth-surfaced materials (glass, plastics, or metals), we suggest sanding the surface with 20-50 grit sandpaper or slightly roughing it by some other means.

OILY WOODS

When working with oily woods, it is best to wipe the gluing surface with acetone, alcohol, or some other quick-drying solvent.

Grizzly Glue coverage averages 1/3 to 3/4 oz. per sq. ft. Coverage is needed on one surface only.

POROUS MATERIALS

When working with very porous materials, it’s best to apply a thin layer to both surfaces.

For end-grain-to-end-grain bonds, we suggest using Grizzly Xpress or Grizzly Structan.

If using Grizzly One for this type application, apply a thin layer of glue to both surfaces and let them set for about 5 minutes. Then apply a second coat of glue to the surfaces before joining them together.

Ideal temperature for applying glue is above 40°F. Warm material and glue temperatures will accelerate drying and curing time, so if you store Grizzly Glue in the refrigerator or freezer, we suggest you remove it 2 to 3 days before use.

Use a clamp to get a great bond. Once a good bond between the surfaces is achieved, remove the clamp.

Grizzly Glues are 100% waterproof*. Use them in underwater applications and even submerge them indefinitely.

For applications that will be submerged indefinitely, cover the glue joints with a good quality paint, varnish, or other water-resistant coating.

*according to German Standard DIN 68 602 & EN 204 D4, commonly known as the boiling water test.

Once Grizzly Glues cure, they can withstand temperatures ranging from approximately -30° F to 280°F in a glued joint.

Grizzly Glue adhesives sand and/or grind to a powder without burning or softening and won’t clog sandpaper and sanding belts.

Grizzly Glues stain better than any other type of polyurethane adhesive. Plus, Grizzly Glues leave little or no visible glue lines, many times eliminating the need for coloring.

You can easily paint over Grizzly Glues without affecting the glue or the paint, no matter what type of paint you use. Finishes and topcoats are also compatible with all Grizzly Glue products.

Grizzly Glues are resistant to bugs! Bugs and other insects steer clear of these adhesives and won’t attack the glue, even if it’s left unpainted.

Once cured, these glues are an inert solid, meaning they won’t break down chemically and won’t affect the environment.

The shelf life for Grizzly Glue in an unopened container is about 15 months.

Once you open the glue, keep it stored in a refrigerator or freezer for best results. Cool, dry conditions will help keep your glue fresh and usable. Before using the glue, we suggest you remove it from the refrigerator or freezer 2 to 3 days before using it, so that the glue can reach room temperature or warmer. Low temperatures will not affect the glue’s bonding strength, but it will slow the drying and curing time.

To clean up wet glue, use acetone as a solvent. However, Grizzly Glues are very easy to scrape and sand, so we recommend you let the glue dry, then remove it by scraping or sanding it off the surface.
